Genetic Data Privacy & Disclaimer
Purpose of This Page
At Your Genes by Design, part of Inspired Living for Women, your data privacy, security, and ethical protection are taken seriously.
This page explains how your genetic information is used, how it’s protected, and what you can realistically expect — as well as where the limits of interpretation begin — from the educational reports and resources provided.
1. Scope of Services
All reports, courses, and educational materials offered through Your Genes by Design are for informational and educational purposes only.
They are not medical or diagnostic and do not replace professional care from a qualified healthcare provider.
My goal is to help you understand how everyday factors — such as nutrition, exercise, sleep, and stress — can influence the way your genes function and express themselves over time.
These insights are designed to support awareness and informed decision-making, not to diagnose, treat, or predict disease.
If any information from your genetic data raises a health concern, you should confirm results with a certified clinical laboratory and consult your physician or licensed healthcare provider.
2. Data Source & Limitations
If you choose to provide your raw DNA data — for example, from AncestryDNA, 23andMe, Nutrition Genome, SelfDecode, or other direct-to-consumer (DTC) testing platforms — please note the following:
- These services analyze selected points in your DNA (called genetic variants or SNPs) rather than sequencing entire genes.
- Because of this, the data can miss certain details — like rare variants or small structural changes — that only clinical-grade sequencing can detect.
- While this type of data can offer meaningful educational insights, it is not designed for medical or diagnostic purposes.
- All interpretations offered through Your Genes by Design are based on peer-reviewed functional genomics research and intended solely for informational and educational use.
If any information from your data raises a health concern, it should be confirmed through a certified clinical laboratory and discussed with your physician or licensed healthcare provider.
3. Data Privacy & Security
At Your Genes by Design, part of Inspired Living for Women, your data privacy, security, and ethical protection are taken seriously.
If you submit your raw DNA data for an educational report, the following safeguards apply:
Anonymization
Each report is processed using a unique client ID (for example, YD104).
Your name and contact details are never linked to your genetic file during analysis.
Storage
Raw DNA files are stored locally on an encrypted device — never in cloud storage or third-party databases.
They are permanently deleted as soon as your report is delivered.
Your final PDF report is hosted temporarily through a private Dropbox download link.
The PDF file is permanently deleted 30 days after delivery.
No files are uploaded to shared platforms, and no data is retained long-term.
Working files created during analysis are deleted within the 30-day window unless you provide written consent for extended retention as part of an ongoing collaboration.
Transmission
When your genomics report is ready, you’ll receive an email with a private, secure Dropbox link to download your PDF.
The link is accessible only to you and is set to expire automatically.
Your report file is not attached to the email and is not stored permanently on any server.
All emails related to your report are sent through standard encrypted email protocols (TLS), and your report is deleted from Dropbox after the retention period outlined below.
Confidentiality
Your data and results are never sold, shared, or used for research purposes.
Only you — and anyone you choose to share your report with — have access to your results.
4. Data Retention
By default, your raw DNA file is securely deleted within 30 days of completing your report.
If you are engaged in ongoing coaching or educational services, you may authorize longer data retention in writing.
You can request deletion of your data at any time.
5. Ethical & Professional Standards
All interpretations and educational resources are based on:
- Functional Genomics principles
- Peer-reviewed human genetics research
- Non-diagnostic educational use in accordance with current ethical standards for genomics educators.
I do not diagnose medical conditions, prescribe or recommend prescription medications, or interpret clinical laboratory data.
Any review of external test results (including bloodwork, DUTCH, or GI-MAP) is conducted solely for educational and informational purposes, not for diagnosis or treatment.
6. Informed Consent
By submitting your DNA data or participating in any genomic education or coaching service through Your Genes by Design, part of Inspired Living for Women, you acknowledge that:
- You understand the limitations of direct-to-consumer (DTC) DNA testing.
- You consent to educational interpretation of your anonymized data.
- You understand that all services are non-diagnostic and do not constitute medical advice or treatment.
